Welcome to Peeps Academy! Are you new to the world of NFTs?
Here you can find information about NFTs, including how to create a wallet and mint your first NFT!

  • NFT stands for "non-fungible token". These are unique, irreplaceable, verifiable, digital things. They come in a variety of forms such as art, music, gifs, and much more. These one-of-a-kind digital assets are stored, encrypted, and traded on a crypto blockchain. This crypto blockchain can then authenticate and provide proof of ownership for each NFT. In order to purchase a NFT, you will need a cryptocurrency wallet.

  • Similar to a physical wallet we carry, a cryptocurrency wallet is a digital wallet that is used to hold and trade digital cryptocurrencies. Some popular options include Metamask and Coinbase wallet, although Metamask is most commonly used for NFT transactions.

  • When creating your Metamask wallet, you will be generated Secret Recovery Phrases aka Seed Phrases that allow you to access your wallet in the event you forget your login information or need to log in elsewhere.

These phrases act as the master-key to your wallet. Make sure to store it somewhere safe. It is recommended to save this information offline.

NEVER share your seed phrase with anyone or leave it out publicly.

Do not take pictures of it or store on your PC/mobile device.

  • Minting is a term used to describe the initial sale of an NFT. When you mint a NFT, it officially becomes part of the Ethereum blockchain. NFTs are tokens that get "minted" when they are generated and added to your Metamask wallet.

One of the major differences between minting and secondary sales is that when you mint a NFT, you get it for the initial price set by the project, whereas in secondary sales you are able to buy it for the price set by the current owner of the NFT.

  • Scammers are always evolving and finding ways to take advantage of people, so please be extra cautious!

NFT Discords usually have the following statements:

    - ASSUME ALL DIRECT MESSAGES ARE SCAMS! The first thing you should do when joining a NFT Discord server is turn off DMs from server members from your privacy settings.

    - A moderator will never reach out to you via Direct Message. They will never ask for your seed phrase or for you to to verify your account. If you receive these messages, they are most likely a scam.

    - Always be cautious of ALL links, especially if they seem suspicious. NFT Discords usually have a channel of Official Links. Be sure to strictly use them to navigate.

    - There are countless scammers that target community members by changing their Discord name to a team member and pretending that you are selected for an allowlist spot or a giveaway. These are scams 100% of the time.

    - Be cautious of what websites are connected to your wallet. You have the ability to connect and disconnect sites from your wallet. A good rule of thumb is to disconnect from any website you give permission to when you are no longer interacting with the website.

Once a scammer has access to your wallet and moves your NFTs or cryptocurrency out, there's usually little that can be done by the platforms and project creators simply because there are no tools or methods for retrieving stolen assets. It's best to take precautions now before it's too late.
